Missing Taxi Driver’s Death: Have Assin districts become a trading estate for assassins?
A 50-year-old taxi driver, Kwabena Teye, nicknamed "One Day" has been tragically found dead in a public toilet at Assin Juaso after he went missing for two weeks following the discovery of his abandoned taxi cab in the bush.
The police at Assin Nyankomase were notified about his sudden disappearance for investigations to be carried out.
Subsequently, a dead body was found in a toilet facility at Assin Juaso around 4:00PM where the father of the deceased, Mr. Kwame Teye confirmed to the media that it was their missing son.
Meanwhile, some worried locals expressed fear about the rising frequency of such incidents in the area with about 6 cases reported so far.
Prior to Kwabena Teye’s untimely demise, on February 6, 2024, an unidentified man suspected to be in his forties was found dead at the Railway Station area in Assin Fosu.
Subsequent to that, in Assin Dompim, a 16-year-old student identified as Nathaniel Nyame was tragically found dead in a quarry pit on April 11, 2024.
Later, on April 30, 2024, a 65-year-old farmer named Akwasi Akuokoh was also discovered dead in a river at Assin Akropong in the Assin Fosu Municipal.
Again, on May 16, 2024, at Assin Tabi in the Assin South District, a 48-year-old palm wine tapper known as Akwasi Nimafo went missing but was later found dead in a river.
Two days later, on May 18, 2024, Emmanuel Owusu, a 63-year-old farmer from Assin Atintan in the Assin North District, was also found dead in River Pra while returning from the farm.
In Assin Bosomadwe, the police are currently investigating a suspected murder case after a hunter failed to return home having left for the farm some months ago.
The latest incident is that of taxi driver Kwabena Teye, who had been missing for a week but was later found dead in a toilet facility.
The residents are concerned about these incidents and are urging the police to increase presence and patrols in the Assin districts for enhanced security and safety of residents.
Given the trend of similarity in the aforementioned suspected murder cases, the residents are urging the police to broaden their investigations to cover all possible angles and motives to uncover the truth behind these akin tragic events.
Meanwhile, the Central North Regional Police Command has launched investigations into all the suspected murder cases.
