Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, the Greater Accra Regional Minister designate and Member of Parliament for Shai Osudoku, has made history in Ghana's 9th Parliament with the shortest vetting process on record. Her vetting, which took place on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, which took not more than 10 minutes, with no questions asked by the appointment committee.
Instead, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin acknowledged the presence of Ocloo's entourage, indicating her competence. He praised Ocloo as a commendable member of the House and extended his congratulations.
First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor welcomed Ocloo's guests and unexpectedly discharged her immediately.
However, Ghanaians are not pleased with the swift vetting process, questioning how no questions were posed to Ocloo, especially given the importance of her region.
Mussa Dankwa, Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, expressed shock and disappointment on Facebook, wondering how neither minority nor majority MPs asked a question.
"Shocking, so no MP asked any questions. I am truly shocked. Indeed, some things will never change. We will never get there. Is it just a vcoincidence that neither a minority nor a majority MP asked a question?
Dankwa's concerns highlight the importance of rigorous vetting processes in ensuring that nominees are thoroughly scrutinized and prepared for their roles.
As Ocloo prepares to take on her new position, many will be watching to see how she addresses the challenges facing the Greater Accra Region.
