Homowo 2025: A Celebration of Peace, Unity, and Strength

This year’s Homowo festival was marked by peace, unity, and a renewed sense of togetherness among the Ga Mashie people. The Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II in his address, emphasized the importance of peace, unity, and strength among all Ga Mashie clans — Gbese, Abola, Sempe, Asere, Otublohum, Akumadjan, and others — reminding the people that true progress can only come through harmony and oneness.

As part of the celebrations, the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II performed the traditional sprinkling of kpokpoi across the various stool houses, including those of Gbese, Abola, Sempe, Otublohum, Asere, Akumadjan, and others. This sacred ritual symbolizes blessings for the land, invoking both ancestral spirits and divine grace for prosperity, peace, and abundance in the coming year. He prayed that the Ga people would continue to remain united and avoid divisions that weaken their strength as a community.

The event was colorful and deeply cultural. The Ga Mantse, adorned in red cloth and scarf, led the procession alongside his linguists and traditional drummers, whose rhythms filled the air with joy and celebration. The atmosphere reflected happiness, pride, and cultural identity as the people of Ga Mashie came together to honor their heritage.

To crown the celebration, a football match was held between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kpando Heart of Lions in the Homowo Peace Cup. In a spirited encounter, Accra Hearts of Oak emerged victorious with a 2-0 win, further adding excitement to the day’s festivities.

Homowo 2025 has truly stood out as a peaceful and memorable celebration. The call for unity and strength by the Ga Mantse remains a guiding message for the people: when united, they stand firm and strong, able to achieve greater heights together.
