Goshers, host of “The Ghana Experience” met Chinakaho from South Africa, Cape Town. Chinakaho said Ghana is a country busting with life and activity and multitude of people going around and so it’s quite an active and vibrant city. The host asked her is it different from South Africa and she said the traffic took her by surprise coming from the airport to where she is staying.
That took me by surprise but it’s not very different. It’s when l got on the street of Accra and the other thing that did surprise me was the humidity. I wasn’t expecting that. So it took a bit of adjusting too. It’s warm. It’s warm and very humid as compared to Cape Town. Yes, compared to Cape Town.
She hasn’t tried any of our local food yet but she is looking forward to it. Goshers recommended Waakye, Banku and Fufu to her. I’m going to try all of it so l’m quite excited to try. I have got about a week so l have got more or less seven days now. There is a variety and an opportunity to explore more local things and indigenous because l do feel that South Africa is a bit more westernized especially Cape Town, it’s more urban so you’re used to things looking a certain way but l think it offers a diversity to explore and also we went to the Black Star Square. There is quite a lot of interesting opportunities like in terms of exploring food.
Chinakaho came to Ghana because of business. We are having a consortium meeting, a conference essentially. DSI Africa and we’re going to be speaking to different researchers and different institutions that are involved in our consortium which focuses on exploring data science to address the different health challenges, Improve health outcomes in Africa. We are working in health and biomedical science, we look at the different challenges that Africa faces in terms of health challenges, health outcomes and just policy around health and addressing things like data sharing, genomics and so we have a group f scientists and institutions and different researchers that are exploring data science and health to bring that data together and answer those questions.
We are quite a vibrant consortium and community and with people working in different areas of science and research coming together and converging as an interdisciplinary consortium to answer those challenges l speak to.
