GFA Introduces Comprehensive Insurance Package and Logistics Support for All Ghanaian Referees
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced a new nationwide policy that provides comprehensive insurance coverage and enhanced logistics support for all registered referees across the country. The initiative aims to strengthen referee welfare, improve officiating standards, and promote safety within Ghana’s football ecosystem.
Under the new package, referees will receive medical and accident insurance designed to protect them during league matches, tournaments, and official GFA-sanctioned activities. The coverage includes emergency medical care, injury compensation, and support for long-term treatment where necessary.
In addition to insurance, the GFA is rolling out improved logistics support covering transportation, officiating equipment, and match-day essentials. This is expected to reduce the financial and operational burdens often faced by referees, ensuring they can perform their duties professionally and without logistical constraints.
According to the GFA, the initiative forms part of a broader effort to elevate officiating standards and enhance fairness and consistency in Ghanaian football. The association emphasized that supporting referees is critical to the integrity of the game and the overall football development agenda.
Referee associations across the regions have welcomed the move, describing it as a timely intervention that acknowledges the risks and challenges referees encounter on and off the field.
The rollout begins immediately and will be integrated into all upcoming domestic competitions, including the Ghana Premier League, Division One League, Women’s Premier League, and juvenile football matches.
