Restrictions on Muslim Students at Wesley Girls SHS Conflict with International Human Rights Standards – Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu
Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has stated that ongoing restrictions placed on Muslim students at Wesley Girls Senior High School contradict internationally accepted human rights principles.
The Minister emphasized that policies preventing students from observing essential aspects of their faith including prayers and religious practices run contrary to global standards on freedom of religion and belief.
He noted that Ghana, as a member of the international community, is obligated to protect these rights within all educational institutions. The Education Ministry, he added, is engaging stakeholders to ensure that school policies align with both national laws and international human rights conventions.
The Minister called for a balanced approach that safeguards school discipline while upholding students’ constitutional and religious freedoms.
