Former MP Expresses Interest in Odo Broni After Widowhood Rites
A former Member of Parliament for the Adenta Constituency, Kojo Adu Asare, has publicly stated his intention to marry Priscilla Ofori Atta, popularly known as Odo Broni, following the completion of her widowhood rites.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM, the former MP said he admires Odo Broni and would consider marriage after she fulfils all customary requirements expected of a widow. His comments come shortly after the burial and final funeral rites of renowned highlife musician Daddy Lumba, who passed away earlier this year.
Kojo Adu Asare described Odo Broni as calm, gentle and respectable, noting that his interest was not based solely on physical attraction. He stressed that his intention, if realised, would be centred on companionship and responsibility rather than having additional biological children.
According to him, he would be prepared to support Odo Broni and assist in the upbringing of her children, while also helping to preserve the legacy of the late musician.
The former MP’s remarks have generated mixed reactions from the public, particularly on social media, with some questioning the timing of the declaration while others view it as a personal decision that aligns with cultural norms once widowhood rites are completed.
Odo Broni is one of the recognised surviving spouses of Daddy Lumba, following a recent legal clarification that affirmed her status alongside the musician’s first wife, Akosua Serwaa Fosuh, after disputes surrounding funeral and widowhood rites.
As of now, Odo Broni has not publicly responded to the former MP’s comments.
