Pres. Mahama Arrives in Abuja for 68th ECOWAS Ordinary Summit

President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Abuja, Nigeria, to participate in the 68th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.

The high-level summit brings together regional leaders to deliberate on security, economic integration, democratic governance, and regional stability across West Africa.

Focus on Regional Stability and Economic Cooperation

The Abuja meeting is expected to focus heavily on security challenges in the sub-region, including terrorism, political instability, and cross-border threats. Discussions will also centre on economic recovery, trade cooperation, and the strengthening of ECOWAS institutions.

President Mahama’s participation reinforces Ghana’s commitment to regional diplomacy and collective problem-solving, particularly at a time when the West African bloc faces mounting political and security pressures.

Ghana’s Role in ECOWAS

Ghana has long played a key role within ECOWAS, advocating for dialogue, democratic governance, and peaceful resolution of conflicts. President Mahama is expected to engage fellow leaders on the need for unity, cooperation, and practical solutions to challenges confronting the region.

High-Level Engagements

The summit will also provide an opportunity for bilateral discussions on the sidelines, as leaders explore ways to deepen cooperation in trade, infrastructure development, and regional integration.

The outcomes of the 68th ECOWAS Ordinary Summit are expected to shape the bloc’s policy direction in the coming months, as member states work toward peace, economic resilience, and regional solidarity.
