WHY DR. KWAME NKRUMAH IS GHANA'S BEST PRESIDENT SINCE INDEPENDENCE
Ghana has had alot of political leaders after independence both military and constitutional leaders but Dr. Kwame Nkrumah is considered as the most successful and greatest leader of Ghana after colonization.
A lot of political leaders did a lot to promote Socio development in the country but Nkrumah tops all.Since he was elected as the chairman of government business in the British colonial administration, prime minister in 1954, leading and declaring Gold Coast (Ghana) as independent in 1957 and president till he was overthrown in a military coup in 24th February,1966 he made a great impact in promoting Socio economic development of Ghana .
Taking education into consideration Dr. Kwame Nkrumah did his Possible best to introduce free education in the then three northern regions in Ghana (Northern region,Upper East and West region).He made education attractive to the people in the northern regions to up their interest in good and quality education at that time .
Furthermore, Dr. Nkrumah established schools in the width and breadth of the county notable of this includes The University of Cape Coast (UCC), Ghana National College, Mfantsiman Girls SHS, Winneba SHS,Apam SHS,Swedru SHS, Oda SHS, Ofori panyin SHS, Kwadaso Agric College College, Dormaa SHS,Enchi College of Education, Fosu college of education,Kumasi Technical Institute now Kumasi Technical University, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology,Ghana Medical School ,Techiman SHS among others are some of the schools established under the Nkrumah administration which is still in existence .
Also, Nkrumah did a massive contribution at the secondary sector of our economy by setting up industries to transform primary goods to finished or semi- finished goods for consumption.He established Abosso Glass factory, Komenda sugar factory, Kade matches factory, Bolgatanga meat processing factory, Asutsuare sugar factory,Wenchi tomatoes factory and many more are factories which was established by him to create employment and economic growth of the country.
• We can’t mention the achievement of Kwame Nkrumah without stating what he did in promoting the banking sector in Ghana. He established the mother of all Banks in Ghana that’s Bank of Ghana (BoG) on 12th February, 1963, Ghana Commercial Bank, National Investment Bank (NiB), Social security and Insurance Trust (SSNIT) and Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) to give farmers and traders loans and assistance to enhance them in their activities.
During the colonial era,the colonial masters established forts and castles, when Nkrumah came in power, He also built housing facilities to promote tourism and accommodations for his people, notable of this facilities include includes, State housing and hotel projects, Kanda estate, Star hotel, Continental hotel now Golden Tulip Hotel,Tema Township and communities, Kwadaso estate, Buokrom estate.
Akosombo dam was also established by him to provide hydro electric power to citizens and the neighboring countries,
The state owned broadcasting media house Ghana Broadcasting Coloration(GBC),Ghana film industry, Ghana news Agency were also set up by Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
This and many things Dr. Kwame Nkrumah did within his nine (9) years in office as president of the first republic of Ghana that made him most achievable, successful, Hand working , Selfless and best president Ghana.has ever had.
