 My girlfriend doesn't ask for anything. When I buy her a gift, she makes me feel I've wasted my money. We talked about it extensively. I'm not rich but spending something on the woman I love makes sense to me but she tells me, "Save your money. When the time comes we'll spend it."

We are almost a year together and the only thing I have done for her is one time that I sent lunch to her at her workplace. She loved it but she told me not to do it again because it's a waste of money.

Is she doing too much to prove she's not materialist or it's normal?

Apart from that, I feel like I'm not in control of the relationship. I've not invested enough in her to feel I own my spot in her life. You see that feeling you get when you see your girlfriend wearing a watch you bought for her? I've never felt like that before.

What's there to do to improve this relationship? Should I take it as normal and act along or I should push to make a change? I'm not spending the world on her but she should allow herself to be taken care of. Or the problem is me?
