The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that the process of replacing voter ID cards will commence on Thursday, May 30 and end on Friday, June 14. In the course of the same period, vote transfers and proxy voting applications will be accepted.
The activities will be held at EC district offices, specific electoral zones, and public universities.
It is essential to highlight that it is an unlawful act for a guarantor to vouch for more than ten people, including non-Ghanaians and those less the age of 18.
The EC had already announced preparations to update the voter register ahead of the December 2024 elections. This update is scheduled to begin on May 7 and end on May 27, 2024.
The purpose is to guarantee that newly eligible citizens, particularly those who have recently turned 18, are added to the voter rolls.
In addition, citizens who are over 18 but have not yet registered for a voter ID card will be offered the opportunity to do so during this time.
