Legend, Stevie Wonder Officially Granted Ghanaian Citizenship

Grammy award-winning music legend, Steveland Morris professionally known as
Stevie Wonder has been granted official Ghanaian citizenship.
At a
ceremony held at the Jubilee House in Accra, the legendary singer, songwriter,
and record producer swore an Oath of Allegiance, and was officially conferred a
Ghanaian citizen by the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E Nana Addo
Dankwa Akuffo-Addo.
Stevie
Wonder admitted that he has always had a great admiration for Ghana precisely
the rich cultural heritage and values, expressing utmost gratitude for the
honor bestowed on him.
He
added that he is thrilled to now call himself a Ghanaian citizen because
Ghanaians are very peaceful and hospitable people.
Speaking
at the occasion, the President commended Stevie Wonder for his great
contribution to music and his unwavering dedication to the African diaspora.
According
to the President, Stevie Wonder’s music has undoubtedly inspired Ghanaians and
Africans from all walks of life, and the legend’s visit to the motherland would
help strengthen ties between Africa and the diaspora.
The
current Minister of Interior, Hon. Henry Quartey in his remarks, praised the
President for championing the Year of Return initiative which has so far
culminated in the registration of 252 individuals from Africa-America and Caribbean
Diasporan communities as Ghanaians.
The
ceremony marked a significant milestone in the nation’s efforts to attract
diasporan Africans and recognize their outstanding contributions to the African
diaspora. It is also expected to breed further partnerships between Ghana and
the African diaspora, to maintain the country’s position as the hub for rich
African culture and tradition.
