Budding Ghanaian songstress Ama Nova has opened up about the state of the Ghanaian music industry, making bold statements regarding the behavior of some of the country’s big artists. Ama Nova, known for her honest and direct approach, expressed her frustration with the disparity between what many top Ghanaian artists preach and how they live their lives behind closed doors, in a recent interview on Property 102.1 FM with renowned radio host Amansan Krakye, Ghanaian musician and social commentator
Ama Nova highlighted that many artists, who often advocate for issues like social change, unity, and the upliftment of the youth, seem to be living contrary lives. She pointed out that while these public figures are quick to preach about hard work, discipline, and self-reliance, their personal actions and choices often contradict these values.
"Many of these big artists are saying one thing in public and doing something entirely different in their personal lives. They are quick to talk about the struggles of the youth and the need for perseverance, but behind the scenes, they are not always living by those same principles," Ama Nova remarked.
She noted that some of these artists, instead of fostering an environment of collaboration and genuine mentorship, often engage in practices that do not benefit the younger generation. According to her, some artists are more focused on their personal gain rather than using their platform to help others in the industry.
During the interview, Ama Nova also stressed the importance of authenticity in the music industry, urging her peers to be true to themselves and to the messages they promote. She emphasized that the youth look up to these artists, and it’s essential for them to practice what they preach, so they can be positive role models.
The conversation took a more reflective turn as Ama Nova acknowledged the pressures that come with being in the public eye. However, she maintained that it is possible to remain true to one's principles, even in the face of these challenges.
Ama Nova’s comments have sparked discussions among fans and industry insiders, with many agreeing that there is a need for greater integrity within the industry. Her call for greater responsibility among big artists resonates with many who believe that the youth, particularly, need more genuine role models to look up to.
As the interview concluded, Ama Nova left listeners with a poignant reminder: “If we want to see real change, we must first change ourselves. The message we send to the youth must align with the way we live our lives.”
Her remarks have certainly raised important questions about the values and actions of some of Ghana’s biggest music stars. Whether or not the conversation will lead to a shift in the industry remains to be seen, but Ama Nova’s call for greater authenticity has undoubtedly made an impact.
