Besstel Foundation, a leading non-governmental organization dedicated to mental health advocacy, has been recognized by the Ghana Prison Service for its unwavering commitment to improving healthcare, particularly in the area of mental health and psychosocial well-being. The foundation received a prestigious award during the Prison Service’s first-ever Dinner Night held on February 7, 2025.
The award was presented in recognition of Besstel Foundation’s consistent efforts in providing mental health training to frontline workers, including prison officers, healthcare professionals, immigration officers, education directors, and high school staff. Over the past eight years, the organization has worked closely with the Ghana Mental Health Authority to enhance mental health awareness and care across the country.
Receiving the award on behalf of the foundation was its Country Director, George Bessa Simon, who expressed gratitude to the Ghana Prison Service for acknowledging the foundation’s work. “This recognition is a testament to our dedication to improving mental health services, especially in underserved areas like prisons, where psychological well-being is often overlooked,” he stated.
Beyond training initiatives, Besstel Foundation has made significant contributions to healthcare institutions in Ghana. The organization has donated medical supplies to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi and other hospitals across the country, further solidifying its role in supporting mental health and general healthcare.
The latest award from the Ghana Prison Service adds to the foundation’s growing list of accolades. Two years ago, Besstel Foundation secured three awards at the Philanthropy Awards, reinforcing its impact in the humanitarian and healthcare sectors.
With this recognition, Besstel Foundation remains committed to expanding its programs, advocating for better mental health policies, and ensuring that vulnerable populations, including prisoners, receive the mental health care they deserve.
