The Government of Ghana is moving forward Minister Nikpe emphasized the government's commitment to regularizing motorcycle use for commercial purposes, stating, "We are going to commit to ensuring that within the shortest possible time, we get the Okada operationalized." He highlighted the importance of licensing and training Okada riders to ensure passenger safety.
The Ministry is working closely with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) to facilitate the licensing process and address challenges faced by the authority. Minister Nikpe noted the need to enhance technology to eliminate intermediaries in the licensing process, ensuring efficiency and transparency.
This initiative aligns with the government's broader efforts to improve transportation infrastructure and reduce road congestion by integrating alternative modes of transport. The legalization of Okada services is expected to provide a safer and more regulated environment for both riders and passengers.
