Accra, Ghana – Today marks the 10th anniversary of the tragic June 3, 2015 disaster that claimed more than 150 lives in Accra. What began as heavy rains that flooded major parts of the capital quickly turned catastrophic when an explosion occurred at a GOIL fuel station near Kwame Nkrumah Circle. The combination of water and fire created a scene of chaos, devastation, and national mourning that remains etched in the memory of Ghanaians.
Dr. Grace Ayensu-Danquah, a respected medical professional and humanitarian, took to social media to reflect on the role she played during those trying times. She recounted volunteering alongside Dr. Abrokwa at the 37 Military Hospital, where they treated numerous burn victims in the aftermath of the explosion.
“Amen and Amen!! 10 years ago… June 3rd, 2015 I volunteered to work for several weeks in 37 Military Hospital with Dr. Abrokwa on a lot of the burn victims. It was a very sad situation. May they continue to RIPP,” she posted.
Her words are a solemn reminder of the lives lost and the heroic efforts of healthcare professionals who stood on the frontline during Ghana’s most harrowing civilian disaster.
MulticdbOnline joins the nation in remembering this day and urges all citizens to be vigilant as Ghana enters another rainy season. Flooding remains a major concern in Accra, and the tragedy of June 3 must not be forgotten or repeated.
Let this day serve as a call to action: for improved infrastructure, better emergency response systems, and collective civic responsibility.
