Man who reportedly faked robbery and kidnap near Kasoa to hide misappropriated employer funds in police grip

A 35-year-old man who reportedly faked a robbery and kidnap at Fijai, a suburb of Millennium City near Kasoa in the Central Region has been arrested by the police.

It was said to be a desperate bid to conceal his embezzlement of employer funds.

Identified by the police as Benjamin Owusu, he was initially being treated as a victim, but following suspicions raised by inconsistencies in his report of the staged crime, he turned into a suspect.

He was taken into custody on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, and currently at the Central East Regional Police Command for reporting a fake incident of robbery and kidnap.

He has reportedly told the police after his arrest that he could not account for monies in his custody belonging to his employer and so he orchestrated the kidnapping and robbery incident to cover up the misappropriation of the monies.

He is said to have called the police on September 3, 2025, around 3am to report that he was under a robbery attack at his residence.

Following the report, the police visited the supposed scene of the crime being the residence of suspect Benjamin Owusu, but he was not found in the house.

Police however, found blood stains on the floor of his bedroom, suggesting he might have been harmed.

Samples of the blood stains were lifted from the floor of his room for forensic analysis but according to the police the results of the blood samples from the Police forensic Crime lab proved negative for human blood after a DNA.

Upon his arrest, the suspect reportedly told the police that, he intentionally killed a duck and stained his bedroom floor with its blood to stage his kidnap.

When the police visited his room on the morning he reported the incident, he had abandoned the Sim Card he had earlier used in sending a text message to the complainant [now suspect].

However, he later succeeded in replacing the old Sim Card and subsequently made phone calls from a specific location at Elubo in the Western Region on September 5, 2025.

Police intelligence regarding the activities of the suspect led to them to arrest him from his hideout at Akatamanso in the Ashanti Region on September 24, 2025.

It was after his arrest, that he reportedly confessed to the police.

The police in a statement said they are preparing him for prosecution in court.
