Adwoa Safo Hits Back at Kennedy Agyapong Over Alleged Insulting Remarks

Former Assin Central Member of Parliament, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has come under criticism following comments he made about former Dome-Kwabenya MP and Minister of State, Sarah Adwoa Safo, which she says were insulting and disrespectful.

Adwoa Safo has accused Mr. Agyapong of making derogatory remarks about her character and relevance, particularly during discussions surrounding internal New Patriotic Party (NPP) matters. According to her, the comments went beyond political criticism and became personal, despite their shared history and family ties.

Speaking publicly, Adwoa Safo stated that Kennedy Agyapong described her as “useless” and suggested that she was being unfairly protected or pampered by senior figures within the party. She said such remarks were deeply hurtful and unacceptable, especially coming from someone seeking to lead the party.

She further argued that the comments reflected a broader pattern of disrespectful language toward women, warning that such conduct could damage the NPP’s image and alienate female supporters. Adwoa Safo urged party delegates to consider the tone and character of aspirants when making leadership choices.

The comments have added to existing tensions within the NPP as the party prepares for its presidential primaries. Political analysts note that personal grievances, when played out publicly, risk deepening divisions at a time when party unity is crucial.

Kennedy Agyapong, known for his outspoken style, has previously defended his approach as being frank and unfiltered, though critics argue that such remarks often cross the line into personal attacks.

The exchange has sparked wider debate on political discourse, respect, and gender sensitivity in Ghanaian politics, with calls from some quarters for political actors to exercise restraint and professionalism in public engagements.
