Attorney-General Confirms International Legal Steps in Ofori-Atta Case

The Attorney-General and Minister for Justice has confirmed that an extradition request has been initiated in relation to former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta and an unnamed associate.

According to the Attorney-General, the request follows ongoing investigations and forms part of established legal processes being pursued through international cooperation channels. He emphasized that the matter is being handled in accordance with Ghana’s laws and applicable international treaties governing extradition.

The Attorney-General clarified that extradition proceedings are procedural and do not amount to a declaration of guilt. He stressed that all individuals involved are entitled to due process and the presumption of innocence until proven otherwise in a court of competent jurisdiction.

While details of the alleged offences were not disclosed, the Attorney-General noted that the case involves issues of public interest and accountability. He added that further information will be made available at the appropriate time, subject to legal considerations and ongoing investigations.

The confirmation has drawn public attention due to Ken Ofori-Atta’s former role as Finance Minister and his prominence in Ghana’s recent economic management. Legal experts say extradition requests can be lengthy and complex, often requiring cooperation between multiple jurisdictions and judicial authorities.

The Attorney-General urged the public to avoid speculation and allow the legal process to proceed without interference, assuring that the government remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the rule of law.
