Buying Two Presidential Jets Not a Priority During Economic and Social Challenges – Oppong Nkrumah

Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has dismissed claims suggesting that government is considering the purchase of two new presidential jets, stressing that such an expenditure would be inappropriate and misaligned with Ghana’s current economic reality.

According to him, government’s focus remains on stabilizing the economy, protecting social welfare, and supporting sectors that directly affect the daily lives of citizens. He explained that in a period marked by economic pressure, high public expectations, and ongoing social challenges, acquiring new presidential aircraft cannot be justified.

Oppong Nkrumah emphasized that national resources must be directed toward critical development priorities such as job creation, essential infrastructure, health, education, and measures that ease the cost of living. He noted that discussions about new jets are often fueled by speculation, adding that government has not placed such an item on its immediate agenda.

He urged the public to remain focused on issues that drive national progress, reiterating that responsible governance requires careful spending and a clear sense of priority especially at a time when many Ghanaians are feeling the weight of economic hardship.

The minister’s statement comes amid growing public debate over government expenditure, with citizens calling for higher transparency and prudent financial management as the country navigates its recovery path.
