MoE Secures $180M World Bank Support to End Double-Track; No Academic Fees for Tertiary Freshers in 2026

The Ministry of Education has announced a major boost to Ghana’s education sector after securing a $180 million World Bank facility to expand and upgrade infrastructure across senior high schools.

This investment is expected to phase out the double-track system, which was introduced to manage overcrowding in SHSs.

According to the Ministry, the new funding will support the construction of additional classrooms, dormitories, science labs, and other essential facilities to ensure schools can operate fully on the single-track system.

In addition, the Ministry reaffirmed that “No Academic Fees” will continue for all public tertiary freshers in 2026, maintaining government’s efforts to reduce financial barriers for students entering universities, colleges of education, and technical universities.

The announcement has sparked strong public interest, with many praising the move as a step toward improving educational quality and accessibility nationwide.
