COCOBOD to Roll Out New Tertiary Scholarship for Children of Cocoa Farmers

The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has announced plans to roll out a new tertiary scholarship scheme aimed at supporting children of cocoa farmers to pursue higher education.

The initiative forms part of COCOBOD’s broader social intervention programmes designed to improve the welfare of cocoa farming families and promote long-term sustainability within the cocoa sector.

According to COCOBOD, the scholarship will target qualified students who gain admission into accredited tertiary institutions across the country. The scheme is expected to cover areas such as tuition support and other approved academic-related costs.

Officials say the programme is intended to reduce the financial burden on cocoa farmers, many of whom struggle to support their children through higher education despite their critical role in Ghana’s economy.

COCOBOD noted that investing in the education of farmers’ children will not only improve livelihoods but also encourage innovation, professionalism, and generational continuity within cocoa-growing communities.

Details regarding eligibility criteria, application procedures, and the official launch date of the scholarship are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

The cocoa sector remains a key contributor to Ghana’s economy, employing hundreds of thousands of farmers nationwide. Stakeholders have welcomed the proposed scholarship, describing it as a timely intervention to support education and rural development.
