“To the Women Who Go to Farms Each Day… You Inspire Us” - Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Salutes Ghana’s Female Farmers
Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang has delivered a heartfelt message to Ghana’s hardworking women in agriculture, acknowledging their unwavering dedication and the crucial role they play in sustaining households and communities across the country.
Speaking during the Farmers Day celebrations, she highlighted the daily sacrifices made by countless women who rise before dawn, work long hours on farmlands, and still return home to care for their families.
“To the women who go to farms each day to provide for their families, you inspire us to build a system that supports and empowers you,” she said.
Prof. Naana Jane emphasized that women remain the silent strength behind Ghana’s agricultural success, contributing significantly to food production, trading, and local market activities. She noted that despite carrying a double burden of farm work and domestic responsibilities, they continue to show resilience and leadership.
She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing policies that provide women farmers with better access to land, credit, modern tools, training, and agricultural extension services. According to her, empowering women in agriculture is not just a social obligation but a strategic investment in national development.
This year’s Farmers Day event gathered leaders, farmer groups, gender advocates, and agricultural experts, all united in celebrating the indispensable role of farmers especially the women whose efforts often go unrecognized.
