NPP Gives Peace FM One Week Ultimatum To Retract Defamatory Comments by Hosts
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is
taking a strong stance against Peace FM, issuing an ultimatum to retract
certain statements made by hosts Odiahenkan Kwame Yeboah and Afia Adutwumwaa on
their show EKwanso Brebre.
According to Hon. Davis Kwame Appiah,
the NPP Communicator for Dome-Kwabenya and Assembly member for Taifa-North, the
hosts' comments on April 25, 2024, were "childish" and
"unfortunate."
The controversy stems from a debunked
video circulating online, which falsely claimed that Hon. Mike Oquaye Junior,
the Dome-Kwabenya NPP PC, washed ladies' panties.
Despite the video being discredited,
Odiahenkan Kwame Yeboah and Afia Adutwumwaa allegedly continued to perpetuate
the false narrative, suggesting that Hon. Mike Oquaye Junior washed menstruated
panties on Eid Fitr day.
In an interview with Asona Dehyie
Kwateng, Hon. Davis Kwame Appiah emphasized that the NPP will not tolerate such
"malicious" and "defamatory" statements.
He demanded an immediate retraction
from Peace FM, warning that failure to comply within one week would result in
severe consequences. He stressed that the NPP will not hesitate to take action
to protect the reputation of its members and the party as a whole.
This incident highlights the ongoing
tensions between political parties and media outlets in Ghana, with the NPP
taking a firm stance against what they perceive as biased and misleading
reporting.
The outcome of this ultimatum remains
to be seen, but it is clear that the NPP will continue to push back against
perceived injustices in the media.
