Following a string of tragic losses, Ghana has been left reeling after a number of astute public figures passed away recently. The country has lost prominent figures, influential voices, music legends, ministers of state and dedicated public servants, leaving many Ghanaians and lovers of these personalities heartbroken. Amidst a series of these unexpected losses, eminent citizens and the general public have added their voices to the wave of sympathy through in-person visits and also on various social media platforms, as people from all walks of life mourn in unison regarding the demise of these distinguished personalities.
On July 26, 2025, Ghanaian music legend, Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as “Daddy Lumba”, passed on at the Bank Hospital in Accra after a short illness, according to a statement from his family.
Shortly after, another tragic loss happened. Two ministers of state, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defense, and Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, along with six other dedicated duty bearers died in a military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.
Following closely was the sudden passing of Apostle Kwadwo Safo, referred to by many as “Kantanka”, on Thursday, September 11, 2025. Her was recognized as a preacher, inventor, innovator, agriculturalist, philanthropist, just to mention but a few. His daughter, Sarah Adwoa Safo, former Member of Parliament for Dome Kwabenya and a lawyer, publicly issued a statement to announce the death of her father.
On Thursday, October 23, 2025, the passing of Mrs. Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, the former first lady and widow of the late Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings, was reported and confirmed by her family that she died at the Ridge Hospital in Accra, after she was rushed in unresponsive.
As the nation grapples with multiple bereavements, sympathizers and well-wishers continue to lent their voices to the tributes.
