Chief of Bouho-Krobo Bares Teeth at Homeowners Encroaching on Quarry Concession
The
Chief of Bouho-Krobo, Abusuapanin Akora Poku, has issued a stern warning to
homeowners who have encroached on quarry sites in the Afigya Kwabre South
district of the Ashanti region.
He
cautioned that if these encroachers do not vacate the area, the community will
be forced to take action to prevent disasters and loss of lives.
According
to Abusuapanin Akora Poku, some of these encroachers have taken over buffer
zones, building structures as close as 20 meters to the quarry sites, which is
far below the recommended 500-meter buffer zone.
He
lamented that some of the encroachers build at night, especially when the
Assembly is not in session, and by the time authorities notice, the structures
have already reached advanced stages of construction making it difficult to
demolish them.
He
has called on the government, Regional Minister, and the District Assembly to
intervene immediately to prevent a potential disaster. He emphasized that the
community cannot afford to wait until someone loses his/her life or property
before taking action.
The
chief's warning is a clarion call to encroachers to vacate the quarry sites and
respect the buffer zones to ensure the safety of all. The community pledges its
readiness to work with the authorities to find a lasting solution to the issue
and prevent any potential disasters.
