Four Feared Dead After Land Guards Clash With Illegal Miners At Wassa Kyinkyeso Galamsey Site In The Wassa East District

About four illegal miners are battling for their lives at Ateiku Health Center following a scuffle that ensued between them (the illegal miners) and some muscled men who allegedly work for the Divisional Chief of Mampongso, Nana Kwaamena Damoah II.

The scuffle happened at the galamsey site at Kyinkyeso near Wassa Brofoyedu in the Wassa East district of the Western Region when the illegal miners were busily working.

According to the site manager, Agya Badu Yaw, his boys were on their normal mining duties as when the armed macho men ambushed them, saying that they were sent by the Divisional Chief, Nana Kwaamena Damoah II.

Without hesitation, they started beating the illegal miners with sticks, metallic objects, as well as their hands and legs from all angles inflicting serious injuries on the miners’ heads, arms and other parts of their bodies.

The macho men later confiscated all their working equipment such as washing and pumping machines to the chief's palace at Wassa Brofoyedu.

In a sharp response from the palace of Mampongso Divisional Chief, Nana Kwame Annim (I) who is the Apagyaheneexplained that, the illegal miners at Kyinkyeso have destroyed almost all the major river bodies in the area.

The situation left only one stream which provides clean water for about 10 communities with a total population of over 15,000 people but risk losing its purity.

To prevent this, the chiefs sent their men there to stop the miners and seize all their equipment and bring them to the palace.
