NAGRAT Gives Ministry of Education Two-Week Deadline to Address TVET Teachers' Concerns
The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has issued a two-week ultimatum to the Ministry of Education to resolve ongoing challenges faced by professional teachers within the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) sector.
NAGRAT raised concerns over the lack of consultation with teacher representatives in the development of the scheme of service for TVET educators.
The union also objected to the unilateral migration of teachers from the Ghana Education Service (GES) to the TVET sector without their consent.
Speaking to Citi News, NAGRAT President, Angel Carbonu emphasised that the union had engaged the Ministry of Education and agreed on a two-week timeline to rectify these issues.
“We have had a meeting, and during that meeting, the authorities have identified the anomalies and have also put measures in place to solve the anomalies,” Carbonu stated.
Among the grievances highlighted were discrepancies in service conditions and the lack of a clear roadmap for the affected teachers.
NAGRAT warned that failure to address these concerns within the given timeframe could lead to further action from the union.
The Ministry has yet to issue an official response on how it plans to resolve the concerns, but NAGRAT remains firm on its position, calling for prompt and adequate solutions to safeguard the interests of TVET teachers.
