UTAG TO SUSPEND STRIKE ACTION.



The University Teachers Association of Ghana(UTAG) has set off to suspend the strike action on October 29, 2024 in a press release. The strike which began on October 10, 2024 was to call on government in view of the recent galamsey brouhaha which has caused the destruction of various lands and water bodies. The strike action was a way of showing concern about the happening by creating awareness on the various platforms to see to its ends. 


In addition to the call for the ban of galamsey, UTAG also “called for the speedy revocation of the Environmental Protection(Mining in Forest Reserves) regulations 2022(L.I. 2426) and requested the government to expand the scope of its task force to include Forest reserves in the fight against illegal mining. 


As part of UTAG’s efforts to show their commitment to protect and see to the sustainability of the environment, they also developed a Pact for Candidates for the 2024 Presidential Election with discussions still ongoing, to fight galamsey activities for good.  


The National Independence Election Committee(NIEC) has directed the close of all processes by Monday, October 28, 2024 to allow for the suspension of the strike on Tuesday, October 28,2024
