GHANA HEALTH SERVICE RECORDS FIRST CASE OF MONKEY POX IN GREATER ACCRA.

Ghana has recorded one more case of monkey pox in its capital city, Accra, summing up to 3 cases so far.

The Ghana Health Service is still working to implement the necessary measures in identifying contact persons. They assured the public.

According to Dr. Dennis Laryea, the Deputy Director of Public Health in charge of Disease and Surveillance at the GHS, the case was recorded last week.

In August, Ghana reported its very first case in the Western Region, identifying 25 contacts. The confirmation led to the mother of the first case also testing positive which brought the country’s case count to two (2) as of Thursday October 31.

“There was one case confirmed in the Greater Accra Region. The region has done their investigations so far. We haven’t identified any new case even amongst the contacts, but we’re still following the map to determine if anybody develops symptoms.  I don’t have the figures for the contacts off head, but the case was confirmed last week.” Dr. Laryea explained.

He encouraged the public to be watchful and avoid close contact with persons. He also advised that in case of early detection, individuals should report to the health facility for immediate treatment.
