The Electricity Company of Ghana Limited (ECG) has launched a revenue mobilisation initiative dubbed, “Operation Keep the Lights On”, to recover debts from defaulting customers and inspect prepaid meters. The exercise, which began on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 will end on Friday, January 31, 2025 spanning a period of two weeks.
Targeted at customers who owe debts within ECG operational areas, the exercise will also inspect prepaid meters to ensure their integrity.
“This massive revenue mobilization exercise will focus on all categories of customers in arrears as well as the inspection of all prepaid meters to check their integrity”, ECG said in a statement on Monday, January 13, 2025. ECG reminded its customers that it is a crime to reconnect oneself after being disconnected by their officials, hence urged them to settle their unpaid bills quickly to avoid disconnection.
“Customers are being reminded that it is a criminal offence to undertake self-reconnection after disconnection”, the statement added. Citing the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission’s LI (2413) which grants ECG full access to its installations, the Power Distributing Service provider has urged customers and the general public to cooperate with its staff for the success of the exercise.
