On February 13, 2025, the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, conducted a working visit to Dignity DTRT Apparel Limited and Tex Styles Ghana Limited (GTP) in Tema, accompanied by the Majority Leader of Parliament, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Export-Import Bank (GEXIM), Hon. Sylvester Mensah.
During her visit to Dignity DTRT Apparel, the Minister was briefed by CEO Madam Salma Salifu on the company's operations, which include fabric production and garment manufacturing. The company currently employs over 5,000 Ghanaian workers, with 70% being young women, many of whom had no prior employment. DTRT Apparel offers competitive capacities with short transit times and duty-free access to the United States and European markets. The company is also expanding by building a dope-dye fabric mill in Ghana, the first of its kind in West Africa, to produce custom sustainable synthetic fabrics.
At Tex Styles Ghana Limited, producers of Vlisco, GTP, and Woodin fabrics, the Minister and her team toured the production floor and interacted with workers. Managing Director Kodwo Agyenin-Boateng highlighted challenges such as piracy and counterfeiting in the market, appealing for a task force to address these issues.
The Minister expressed satisfaction with the quality of products and the increased employment opportunities provided by these companies. She emphasized the government's commitment to supporting the private sector to expand and create jobs for the youth. The Ministry, in partnership with GEXIM Bank, plans to explore policies that will provide the necessary support for the garment industry to thrive.
The visit underscores the government's dedication to fostering collaboration with key players in the textile and garment sector to drive industrialization and economic growth in Ghana.
