The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a 90-day deadline for the completion of application processes by applicants on the old passport system following the switch from biometric to chip-embedded passport on Monday, April 28, 2025.
The Ministry has assured the public that it is working expeditiously to ensure smooth transition following Ghana’s official switch.

In a statement issued on April 30, 2025, the Ministry revealed that approximately 30, 000 old passport applications remain on the old system.
The Ministry clarified that out of these pending applications, 7,900 paid applicants have incomplete applications and are required to visit the new portal at passport.mfa.gov.gh and follow the provided procedure to complete their application process for free.
