Cybercrime Bust: 10 Arrested in Weija in Joint Operation by Police and GRA

Weija, Greater Accra Region – The Cybercrime Unit of the Ghana Police Service, in collaboration with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), has arrested ten (10) individuals suspected of engaging in cybercrime-related activities in Weija, a suburb of Accra.

The arrests were made during a joint intelligence-led operation conducted in the early hours of Thursday, as part of ongoing efforts to combat cyber-related crimes and clamp down on digital fraud in the country.

According to a statement from the Ghana Police Service, the suspects were apprehended at a residence believed to be a hub for online scams and other illicit cyber activities. Electronic devices including laptops, mobile phones, external hard drives, and SIM cards were seized at the scene to aid in further investigations.

A spokesperson from the Cybercrime Unit emphasized the importance of the joint operation, noting that cybercrime not only defrauds individuals but also poses a significant threat to the country’s digital security and revenue systems.

“The collaboration with the GRA is part of a wider strategy to tackle tax evasion linked to online businesses and cyber fraud operations. The suspects will be processed for court after investigations are concluded,” the spokesperson added.

The Ghana Revenue Authority also reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with security agencies to trace and stop the financial operations of cybercriminals, particularly those exploiting digital platforms to evade taxes or engage in financial crimes.
