Freetown, Sierra Leone – May 28, 2025 — In a bold and compassionate move, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Youth Affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Sannoh, led a heartfelt outreach under the Juba Bridge in Freetown, engaging directly with dozens of marginalized youth who have found shelter and survival in one of the city’s most overlooked corners.
The visit—part of the Ministry’s ongoing mission to understand and tackle the realities of vulnerable young people—was more than symbolic. It was an act of listening, of empathy, and of promise.
Accompanied by his Deputy Minister, Director of Programs, and Director of Youth in Livelihood Skills, Minister Sannoh spent hours under the bridge speaking with youth who shared raw and emotional stories of hardship, addiction, abandonment, and resilience. His message was clear:
“This is not a show. It’s a responsibility. Our youth deserve opportunities to heal, grow, and contribute. No one should be left behind.”
Stories That Stirred Action
Among the voices was Rosamond, a bright young woman who, despite her harsh environment, demonstrated impressive literacy skills. She bravely shared her dream of continuing her education, and her current struggle with a serious eye condition. Deeply touched, Minister Sannoh pledged that she would receive immediate medical attention and educational support.
Another story came from Alie Foster, a youth who lost a leg in an accident and now lives with chronic pain in the other. Moved by his courage, the Minister committed to facilitating urgent medical care for him.
A New Chapter of Engagement
The visit served as a strong statement of hope, inclusivity, and action, signaling the Ministry’s intent to go beyond policy by showing up where the need is greatest. The goal: to reintegrate these young individuals into rehabilitation, skills training, and livelihood programs.
For the youth beneath the Juba Bridge, the Minister’s presence was not just a visit—it was recognition. For many, it marked the first time they had been seen and heard by those in power.
As the Ministry of Youth Affairs moves forward, the commitment remains: from the streets to strength—because the youth of Sierra Leone deserve better.
