“They Took Everything, and I Let Them”

I never thought I’d tell my story. Maybe out of shame. Maybe because I’ve carried this burden in silence for so long. But today, I want to speak — not for sympathy, but for the women who still believe that sacrificing themselves will make him stay.

I was 19 when I fell in love for the first time. He said I was his everything. That we were too young for children. That there’d be time for that later.

So when I got pregnant, I agreed to abort.

I cried the whole night.

He never showed up at the clinic.

Three months later, he left me… for someone else.

It happened again. And again.

Different men. Different promises. Same ending.

“You’re the only one I trust.”

“You’re my future.”

“This isn’t the right time.”

Each time, I gave in.

Not because I was careless — but because I loved. Because I hoped.

Because I believed their words more than I trusted my worth.

By the time I was 28, I had had four abortions.

And not one of those men stayed.

They took my body. My trust. My motherhood.

And when I needed them most… they disappeared.

Now, I sit in a doctor’s office with tears in my eyes.

“You might have complications,” the doctor says.

“Your chances of conceiving naturally are low.”

My heart shatters.

Not because of the diagnosis — but because I traded my future for people who didn’t even see me as worthy of staying.

In our society, women are told to be strong. To sacrifice. To forgive.

But no one tells us what to do when that sacrifice costs us everything.

Today, I am learning to forgive myself.

To love myself more than I loved their lies.

And to speak — because silence is too heavy.

🕊️ To every woman who gave too much to someone who gave too little — your pain is valid. Your story matters. And your healing begins when you choose yourself.
