In a landmark diplomatic move, Ghana and Morocco have signed a visa waiver agreement that will allow citizens of both countries to travel freely without the need for traditional visas. The announcement was made by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, during a bilateral meeting aimed at deepening cooperation between the two nations.
The agreement is part of a broader effort to strengthen diplomatic, cultural, and economic ties between Ghana and Morocco. Once ratified by the parliaments of both countries, Ghanaian passport holders will be able to enter Morocco without a visa—and Moroccans can do the same in Ghana.
“This is a major step forward in our foreign policy and regional cooperation efforts,” said Hon. Ablakwa. “It opens the door to stronger trade, tourism, and cultural exchange.”
But that’s not all. As part of the growing partnership, Morocco has committed to doubling the number of scholarships it offers Ghanaian students—from 90 to 180 per year. This move is expected to increase educational exchange and foster long-term collaboration between young professionals in both countries.
The new agreement also highlights plans for deeper cooperation in agriculture, tourism, and security, positioning Ghana and Morocco as strong allies in West and North Africa respectively.
While the visa waiver has been signed, it will only come into full effect after ratification by both national legislatures. Officials urge citizens to stay updated on announcements regarding the implementation timeline.
For Ghanaians looking to explore new opportunities, from tourism to education and business in Morocco, the future just got a little more open.
