Ghana records seven new Mpox cases, brings total infections to 170 – GHS Reports

Ghana has recorded seven new cases of Mpox as of July 6, bringing the country’s total confirmed infections to 170. This is according to the latest situational update released by the Ghana Health Service (GHS).

The recent spike in cases, while not yet constituting an outbreak, raises renewed public health concerns, particularly in regions with limited surveillance infrastructure. The GHS has reiterated its commitment to strengthening disease monitoring systems and response mechanisms across all 16 regions.

So far, there have been no new deaths linked to the virus, and recovery rates remain high. However, health officials continue to monitor high-risk populations and have called for increased vigilance, particularly in urban centers and border communities.

The GHS, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and other development partners, is also working to enhance laboratory testing, train frontline health workers, and improve contact tracing efforts.

Members of the public are advised to report symptoms such as fever, skin rashes, swollen lymph nodes, and body aches to the nearest health facility. The Ghana Health Service also urges individuals to avoid close contact with suspected cases and to practice good hygiene.

As Ghana navigates its public health priorities, including COVID-19 recovery and other endemic diseases, the containment of Mpox remains a key focus of national health security.
