Olympic Sprint Sensation Julien Alfred Sidelines with Hamstring Strain

Saint Lucia’s Olympic 100m golden girl, Julien Alfred has withdrawn from the women’s 200m at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo due to a hamstring injury  sustained during her bronze-medal dash in the 100m final.

The 24-year-old athlete who astonished the world by clinching Saint Lucia’s first-ever Olympic medal in Paris last year with a blistering 10.72-second run.

She admitted to feeling pain in her hamstring during warm-ups before the 100m showdown on Sunday but she raced through to clock 10.84 seconds for third place behind USA’s Melissa Jefferson-Wooden.

Saint Lucia Athletics Federation confirmed “On the advice of medical professionals and in consultation with her management team, our Olympic champion and 100m World Athletics Championships bronze medalist, Julien Alfred, has been withdrawn from the women’s 200m….”

Julien Alfred withdrawal means she will not be competing in the 200m event where her world-leading 21.71 from the London Diamond League earlier this summer had her tipped for the podium, if not gold.
