Sports Minister Leaves Black Stars Coach Otto Addo’s Fate to GFA

Sports Minister Kofi Adams has publicly distanced himself from any decisions regarding the future of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, insisting that such matters fall squarely outside his purview.

In an interview on PM Express, Adams stated that the decision on whether Otto Addo remains in charge of the senior national team ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup lies with the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

“The minister will receive briefings. The minister will analyse the briefings. The minister will not take that decision alone. There’s a federation that we have handed over our national team to manage.” He declared

"They have a role to play, and so I cannot sit here when we haven’t had that conversation to be talking about whether we are retaining or dismissing the coach. I can’t go into that realm. Minister doesn’t take those decisions,” he stressed.

The Black stars led by Otto Addo on Wednesday, September 8, 2025, emphatically defeated Central African Republic by 5-0 in Morocco to retain top of their standing with 3points and 8goals difference.

Ghana host Comoros on Sunday, September 12, 2025 at the Accra sports stadium in the last round of game of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

With even a point from that game will be enough for Ghana to seal of of Africa’s spot at the global showpiece next year, despite this feat Ghanaians still believes Otto is not capable to guide the Black Stars a the tournament and call for his sacking after qualifying for the tournament.

As Comoros game draw close will Addo get the chance to lead the team in USA or is this the beginning of the end for him? For now, the Sports Minister has made it clear that the ball is firmly in the association’s court and there are decisions to be made.
