Gender Ministry, CID Move to Arrest Man Who Gave Cigarette to a Child – Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey

Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, says her ministry is working closely with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the Ministry of the Interior to arrest the man captured in a viral video giving a cigarette to a young child.

According to the Minister, the act is not only reckless but a clear violation of the rights and welfare of the child involved. She described the incident as “deeply troubling” and emphasized that protecting children from harm is a national responsibility.

Dr. Lartey stated that investigations are already underway, and the suspect will be prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others who expose children to abuse, harmful substances, or any form of exploitation.

“We are treating this matter with the urgency it deserves,” she noted, assuring the public that the government will not tolerate actions that endanger minors.

The Ministry has also urged the public to report similar incidents and support the nationwide campaign for child protection.
