According to 3News sources, the Police Council has formally recommended a two-year contract extension for Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yuhonu, ahead of his statutory retirement scheduled for December 2025.
The recommendation has been submitted to President John Dramani Mahama, who is now expected to review and approve the Council’s proposal.
Sources indicate that the President is likely to endorse the extension, which would allow the IGP to continue steering ongoing security reforms and operational strategies within the Ghana Police Service.
If approved, the re-engagement will ensure continuity in leadership at a critical time, as the Service works to strengthen public safety, modernize policing systems, and maintain national stability.
