Ghana’s Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza (MP), has issued a firm message to road contractors across the country, declaring a new era of accountability and higher standards in infrastructure delivery.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony for the Wa–Han–Tumu–Navrongo Road, the Minister emphasized that the days of poor workmanship, delays, and inflated project claims are over.

“To our contractors, let me say it clearly: Ghana has changed. Deliver quality, deliver on time, and deliver within budget. There will be no room for shoddy work or inflated claims.”

— Hon. Kwame Governs Agbodza

The statement reflects government’s renewed commitment to:

  • Ensuring the value-for-money principle in all public projects
  • Protecting taxpayers’ resources
  • Completing projects on schedule
  • Improving road safety and national infrastructure

The Wa–Han–Tumu–Navrongo Road project marks a major step toward enhancing transportation within the Upper West and Upper East corridors. Once completed, the road will:

  • Boost trade and local business activities
  • Improve access to social services
  • Reduce travel time and vehicle maintenance costs
  • Strengthen regional connectivity

Hon. Agbodza’s message signals a strong shift in government’s approach  prioritizing quality and integrity over business as usual. Contractors, both local and foreign, are now expected to demonstrate professionalism, efficiency, and accountability.

This stance resonates with growing public demand for durable roads and responsible use of public funds, especially as Ghana accelerates development projects nationwide.

The Ministry has also reaffirmed that non-performing contractors will face sanctions and possible termination of contracts.

As Ghana’s road network continues to expand, today’s message serves as both a commitment and a warning  the future of infrastructure lies in excellence, not excuses.
