Inflation Rate For April Drops To 25% Due To Food Inflation Decrease

Professor Samuel Annim, the Government Statistician, revealed that the inflation rate for April decreased to 25 percent.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Wednesday, May 8, Prof. Annim attributed the decline in inflation to a decrease in food inflation, which dropped to 26.8 percent, the lowest in 13 months, alongside a non-food inflation of 23.5 percent.

"In April 2024, the consumer price index rose to 213.3 compared to 170.5 recorded in April 2023. Consequently, the year-on-year inflation rate for April 2024 was 25.0 percent," Prof. Annim stated.

"This means that between April 2023 and April 2024, prices of goods and services increased by 25.0 percent. This marks a 0.8 percentage point decrease from the March 2024 rate", He explained.

Prof. Annim further noted that in March 2024, the inflation rate rose by 2.6 percentage points from 23.2 percent to 25.8 percent.
