Société Générale Ghana MD Describes Exit Report As A Rumour
Société Générale
Ghana's Managing Director, Hakim Ouzzani, refuted recent media speculation
suggesting the bank's exit from Ghana, labeling it as mere rumour.
Ouzzani clarified
that the report did not originate from the bank itself and reaffirmed the
institution's dedication to its group strategy, emphasizing efforts to bolster
its capital base since 2023.
Addressing
stakeholders at the 44th Annual General Meeting in Accra, Ouzzani stressed that
while rumors regarding SG Ghana have surfaced, they are not endorsed by the
bank. He refrained from providing further commentary on the matter.
Reports had
previously circulated indicating Société Générale's consideration of exiting
Ghana, among other African markets. The bank has enlisted investment bank
Lazard to explore potential buyers for its subsidiaries in Ghana, Cameroon, and
Tunisia.
Speculation has
arisen regarding Absa Bank's interest in acquiring these subsidiaries.
