CONSTITUENCY SECRETARY FOR NDC DETAINED FOR POSSESSING 23,000 BALLOT PAPERS.

A constituency secretary for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has been detained for possessing a large quantity of ballot papers. Abraham Ahiabu, the NDC Constituency Secretary for Akatsi North, was arrested by immigration officers in the Volta Region on Thursday, December 5, 2024.

According to reports, Ahiabu was caught with 3,000 ballot papers, which were allegedly being transported to Vodome, a community in neighboring Togo. However, upon further questioning, Ahiabu revealed that he had an additional 20,000 ballot booklets in his possession, bringing the total to 23,000.

The reason behind Ahiabu's possession of such a large quantity of ballot papers is still unclear. Initially, he claimed that the ballots were intended for voter education purposes in Vodome. However, this explanation has raised suspicions, especially given the use of an unapproved route and the sheer volume of ballots involved.

The incident has sparked concerns about potential electoral malpractice and has drawn widespread condemnation. The Ghana Immigration Service and other security agencies are conducting a thorough investigation to uncover the full extent of the operation and ensure the integrity of Ghana's electoral process.
