Majority MPs on Foreign Affairs Committee to Visit Reopened Ghana Embassy in Washington D.C.

Washington D.C. – May 29, 2025 — Majority Members of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Ghana’s Parliament are set to embark on an official visit to the country’s embassy in Washington D.C., following its formal reopening earlier this week.

The embassy, which had been temporarily shut down by the government, underwent a comprehensive restructuring and systems overhaul. The closure was prompted by serious allegations of corruption and abuse of office, sparking a broader investigation and review of operations within Ghana’s foreign missions.

The reopened mission is expected to operate with enhanced transparency, efficiency, and accountability measures aimed at restoring public and diplomatic confidence.

The Majority MPs’ visit is seen as a critical oversight mission to assess the reforms firsthand and engage with embassy staff on maintaining high standards of service delivery and governance.

Sources within the Foreign Affairs Committee say the delegation will also meet with key officials and members of the Ghanaian diaspora in the United States to discuss bilateral relations, consular services, and ongoing national development efforts.

The visit underscores Parliament’s commitment to ensuring Ghana’s diplomatic missions abroad uphold the highest levels of integrity and professionalism.

More updates to follow as the delegation begins its official engagements in Washington D.C.
