A total of 16 invigilators have been arrested for engaging in various forms of examination malpractice during the ongoing 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
The arrests, made in different examination centers across the country, were confirmed by officials of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service. The invigilators are accused of facilitating cheating, leaking question materials, and compromising the integrity of the examination process.
Preliminary investigations indicate that some of the arrested individuals were caught on camera using unauthorized materials and engaging in irregular communication with candidates. Others allegedly allowed the use of mobile phones in exam halls—an act strictly prohibited by WAEC guidelines.
Authorities have assured the public that full-scale investigations are underway and that anyone found guilty will face the law. WAEC has also reiterated its commitment to upholding the credibility of the BECE and protecting the future of students across the country.
This incident has sparked public concern about the integrity of the education system and the growing trend of exam-related misconduct. Many education stakeholders are calling for stricter screening and monitoring of invigilators, along with greater emphasis on values such as honesty and discipline in schools.
At Multicdb, we believe that academic success must be earned—not manipulated. Protecting the fairness of national exams is key to building a generation that values merit, integrity, and responsibility.
