In a recent address, Issahaku Nuhu Putiaha, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), commended the current government for its intensified efforts in tackling illegal mining (galamsey) across Ghana.

According to Mr. Putiaha, while the fight against galamsey has been a long-standing national issue, there is visible progress under the current administration, especially in the areas of enforcement, community engagement, and water resource protection.

Improved coordination between CWSA and environmental agencies

Restoration efforts for contaminated water sources

Mr. Putiaha also emphasized that sustainable water delivery cannot be achieved unless illegal mining is brought under control, as it continues to threaten both rural water systems and urban treatment plants.

The remarks were made during a stakeholder meeting on rural water supply systems held in the Ashanti Region, bringing together key players from government, private sector, and civil society.
