The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA), Issahaku Nuhu Putiaha, has announced that more than 1,000 water systems have been successfully established across Ghana to improve access to clean and safe water.
Speaking at a recent stakeholder engagement forum, Mr. Putiaha stated:
“More than 1,000 water systems have been established throughout the country…”
— Issahaku Nuhu Putiaha, Deputy CEO, CWSA
He attributed this milestone to the government’s continued investment in rural and peri-urban water infrastructure, as well as strong collaboration between the CWSA, local assemblies, and international development partners.
Impact of the Initiative:
• Improved access to potable water in underserved communities
• Reduction in waterborne diseases
• Empowerment of local water management boards
• Strengthened infrastructure for sustainable water delivery
According to Mr. Putiaha, the success of these water systems reflects not only infrastructure development but also a long-term commitment to sustainable water management, community involvement, and health promotion.
This development comes as the CWSA intensifies efforts to combat illegal mining (galamsey), which threatens several of Ghana’s water sources. The agency views the expansion of clean water access and protection of water bodies as interconnected priorities.
